11 of the best baby bottle sterilisers 2024

Baby bottle sterilizers

If you are using baby bottles, it is advised that they are sterilised to prevent infections until your baby is at least one year old. Sterilisers are also used to sterilise dummies and breast pump parts.

They are four main types of steriliser:

  • Electric sterilisers. These are plugged in and use steam to sterilise up to six bottles in around 5 - 10 minutes. They need regular descaling.

  • Microwave sterilisers. These also use steam but you put them in the microwave for around 4 - 8 minutes. They are smaller than electric sterilisers and so fewer bottles fit inside.

  • Cold water sterilisers. This is the cheapest option. Sterilising tablets or liquid are added to a container of cold water and the bottles are submerged for around 15 - 30 minutes.

  • UV sterilisers. Water and chemical-free, these use UV light to kill bacteria. They are not just restricted to feeding items as you can also sterilise a multitude of items like toys, keys, phones and make up brushes.

You can also just boil feeding equipment in a large pan for at least ten minutes.
